Abstract

This study examines common issues that drivers face when interacting with navigation apps, focusing on usability, clarity of instructions, and app responsiveness. Navigation apps are essential for helping drivers effectively plan their routes. Despite their widespread use, drivers encounter challenges that hinder usability. The navigation apps analyzed include Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze. A mixed-methods approach combines surveys and interviews to gather drivers’ subjective feedback, observational studies to analyze real-time app usage, and Think-Aloud protocols to understand users’ decision-making processes. These methodologies explore both the cognitive and behavioral aspects of app interactions, identifying familiar sources of frustration. Together, these methods provide in-depth insights into drivers’ experiences with navigation apps. The findings highlight flaws and offer recommendations for enhancing the overall driving experience. By addressing these challenges, this research supports the development of user-centered solutions that promote safer, more reliable, and efficient driving experiences.
