Abstract

The chapter focuses on introducing tools to evaluate environmental (life cycle assessment, LCA) and economic (techno-economic analysis, TEA) impacts of algae cultivation and algal biofuel production. Methodology to conduct LCA and TEA is described in this chapter, and then the application of LCA for algal biofuels is explained through a case study. The chapter also provides a critical review of existing LCA and TEA and discusses the future of LCA and TEA in microalgae biofuel production.
