Abstract

A high-performance packet-switching architecture, called the knockout switch, was recently proposed. Because of its low latency, easy maintenance procedures, fault tolerance, and excellent modularity properties, it has applications to the problem of interconnecting local computer networks. The basic principles underlying the knockout switch and its performance under several different traffic models are discussed.
