Abstract
This paper proposes algorithms for handoffs in a wireless ATM LAN. The LAN emulates connectionless networking in its usage of the ATM VP/VC concept. This simplifies the handoff procedures by eliminating the need to tear down and set up segments of connections as endpoints move. We present the detailed signaling procedures that support the algorithms for handoffs and an analysis of measured data from our implementation. The data indicates handoff latency times of 1.3 to 1.6 ms, which validates that cell sequence can be maintained during handoffs using our proposed scheme.
