Abstract
Recent developments in Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology have opened a way to create wireless networks for intra-vehicle environment. In the UWB literature, extensive analyzing work has been done for indoor and outdoor propagation, but very few analyses were investigated for intra-vehicle environments. This paper aims to analyze the performance of UWB propagation for intra-vehicle Networked Control System (NCS). A typical NCS includes two scenarios, one for communication that is undertaken beneath the chassis and another for transmitting and receiving terminals that are positioned within the engine compartment. To evaluate the performance of UWB propagation, we use the recently proposed channel models for intra-vehicle environment, which are based on the IEEE 802.15.3a standard. Through simulations, the bit error rate (BER) performance against the signal to noise ratio (SNR) under different intra-vehicle environments is shown. We also compare the UWB propagation performance of intra-vehicle communications and that of indoor/outdoor environments.
