Abstract
The 100Base-T switches are intended to handle heavy traffic. Whether it's a matter of linking LANs or furnishing high-speed access to servers, these boxes are ready. To determine if these switches are able, DATA COMM ran the first-ever stress test of these products, taking a variety of measurements on frame loss, latency, and speed. Three products were tested the Catalyst 5000 from Cisco Systems Inc., the LANswitch from Madge Networks Inc., and the Megaswitch from Nbase Switch Communications. Test results show that these switches efficiently handle big-time networking jobs.
